The Gardenroute lies between the Outeniqua Mountains, the Tsitsikamma Mountains and the Indian Ocean. The Main Route starts in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape and ends in Tsitsikamma in the Eastern Cape. It is one of the most beautiful regions with pristine beaches, mountains, lakes, rivers, kloofs and forests.

The Gardenroute Nationalpark was established in March 2009. Existing parks like the Tsitsikamma Nationalpark, Wilderness Nationalpark, Knysna National Lake Area as well as various other Nature Reserves and state-owned land were merged and are managed now from SAN Parks South Africa.

The park covers an area of 1.210 km² and includes 605 km² indigenous forest.  It starts in Wilderness in the west and ends in Cape St. Francis in St. Francis Bay in the east.

The area is famous for its natural beauty and unspoiled nature.
