Knysna is surrounded by numerous hiking trails in the indigenous forest, in the mountains and coastal trails. Whether you want to take a short and easy walk to challanging day tours, the area offers somthing for every taste. We love to hike and have lots of insider tips for your hiking holiday.

Foresttrail in Wilderness - Half Collared and Giant Kingfisher Trail

This is a beautiful shady walk through the forest with good bird watching opportunities and you are likely to see the Knysna Turaco (Knysna Lourie). You also walk along the Touw River to the Touw River Waterfall which gives you excellent swimming opportunities in the rock pools

Forest Hiking Trail

A relaxing and nice forest walk in the indigenous Knysna Forest along the Jubilee Creek. You will pass old tree ferns, cross the Jublilee Creek a few times and pass some old gold mines of the Millwood Goldfields. At the end of the trail after about 1.8 km there is a wonderful refreshing rock pool with a small waterfall were you can swim

Forest Hiking Trail

(old Woodcutter or Krisjan-se-nek Trail) Wonderful circular walk through the Knysna Indiginous Forest with some old "Big Trees" along the path. Some of this tree giants are 45m high and around 1000 years old.

The trails are clearly signed with "Circles in the forest" route markers. There are secitions with big 4 - 5 meter high tree ferns and at the long route is a hidden pool in the forest with a waterfall.

Coastal and Forest Hiking Trail

Kranshoek is located in the Hakerville Forest off the N2 between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay about 25km from Littlewood Garden. The area is now part of the Garden Route Nationalpark. In High Season a small entrance fee is required at the beam, otherwise you can issue a so-called "Self-Issued Permit" at the entrance.

The various hiking trails are challenging beautiful scenic coastal walks and forest walks from easy to strenuous with some breathtaking views and unspoiled natural landscapes along the coastline of the African continent.

Walk along the forest roads and old Millwood Mining town. The trail starts at the Mother Holly Museum and Tea Garden.
