The best beaches around Knysna and the Garden Route

Knysna is surrounded by beautiful pristine beaches and secluded bays that makes it ideal for swimming, surfing, beach walks, water sport activities or relaxation. Although Knysna itself is situated on the Knysna Lagoon, many beautiful beaches can be easy reached by car.

Coney Glen is located at the foot of the Knysna Heads in scenic surroundings with picturesque red standstone cliffes. The beach is ideal for a short trip or picnic to admire the breathtaking surrounding landscape between small and intimate coves.

This beautiful sandy beach is sheltered in the Knysna Lagoon and offers nice views through the Knysna Heads to the Indian Ocean. Families with children will love this beach, because of the calm and shallow water. Bollard Bay Beach is only 4 km from Littlewood Garden.

Brenton on Sea Beach has the "Blue Flag Status" and you will find a beautiful wide sandy beach, which stretches to Buffels Bay. You can swim here in the Indian Ocean and there are toilet and shower facilties. In the late afternoon you can make a nice walk on the beach and enjoy beautiful sunsets. Next to the parking area are some nice wooden benches and view points to enjoy wonderful sunsets.

In Buffels Bay you find a sheltered bay which makes this beach one of the safest beaches for bathing and swimming along the Garden Route. There are hardly any currents here. It is a "Blue Flag Beach" and there are toilets and shower facilities as well as a restaurant and small supermarket.

Buffels Bay is very popular with surfers and during december school holiday it can be very crowded here. During the rest of the year it is like most of the beaches here quiet and you can enjoy the landscape.

Only 10 minutes east of Knysna lies a secluded bay with a pristine beach. The protected area provides a wide variety of indigenous flora and fauna surrounded by spectacular landscapes with a pristine beach, which stands out from the contrast of the deep green of the countryside, the reddish- brown sandstone formation and the turquoise - blue of the Indian Ocean. The Noetzie River flows gently through the valley with indigenous coastal forest and flows here on Noetzie beach in the Indian Ocean.
