Knysna is the ideal starting point for excursions and tours of the area . Scenic roads run along the coast and as well as in the indigenous forest with hidden picnic areas and many viewpoints will give you unforgettable moments and offer spectacular views of breathtaking scenery.

Eastbound experience the wild coastline of the Tsitsikamma region with dense forests , steep slopes and rugged valleys and cliffs, fynbosh plateaus, the beautiful Natures Valley, unspoilt beaches and safari opportunities in one of the game reserves. or swimming in beautiful sandy beaches around Plettenberg Bay.

Towards the west you drive through the beautiful Garden Route Nationalpark with the lake areas, beautiful seascape and through small coastal towns, always along the Outeniqua mountains.

In the north you find wonderful pass roads over the mountains into the Little Karoo. Also Outshoorn in the middle of the small Karoo is only 90 minutes drive by car. There you can visit the Cango Caves, one of the largest cave systems in the world or visit an ostrich farm. A trip to Oudtshoorn can be a wonderful round trip over various mountain passes like the Outeniqua Mountain Pass, Montagu Pass, Prince Alfred Pass.

The surrounding of Knysna have extensive forest areas with wonderful "Big Trees" (in some cases up to 1,000 year-old giant trees ) and beautiful picnic areas , lakes and rivers to be discovered. Spitzkop Viewpoint in the Outeniqua Mountains is also worth a trip and can be combined with "The valley of Ferns" with a short walk in the indigenous forest and picnic areas.

In the south, the Indian Ocean and a stunning stretch of coastline extends.

 

From Knysna you can drive on the N2 through the beautiful coastal scenery of the Garden R with views of the Outeniqua mountains, lakes, sand dunes and the Indian Ocean. You will pass the coastal towns of Sedgefield and Wilderness and drive to George. From there you continue on the N9 towards Oudtshoorn and at the beginning of the Outeniqua Pass, turn right into a gravel road towards Montague Pass.
