Knysna is situated on the Cape Birding Route and the Eden District and Garden Route Nationalpark are internatinally renowned as a top tourist destination. The spectacular land- and seascapes, impressive indigenous forests, mountain passes with fynbosh vegetation and a variey of lakes, rivers and estuaries makes for an exceptional bird life with over 220 species of birds. In the mudflats of Knysna Lagoon rare water birds can be observed and the indigenous forest are home to many rare birds such as the Knysna Lourie. In the open Fynbosh vegetation you can view fynbosh birds and at the coastline of the Indian Ocean more sea and water birds can be observed.
Free flight bird sanctuary
Birds of Eden is situated approx. 20 km east of Plettenberg Bay in the "Crags" and can be reached from Littlewood Garden within 45 minutes by car.
A unique two hectare dome spans over a gorge of indigenous forest and creates the world's larest free flight bird sanctuary.
Currently over 3500 birds live in the sanctuary in a safe environment.

Bird of Prey Rehabilitation and Awareness Centre
Radical Raptors is situated in "The Heath" between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, approx. 20 km from Littlewood Garden.
The rehabilitation centre aims community awareness and rescue, rehabilitation and releas of birds of prey. Radical raptors operate directly under the rules and regulations laid down by Cape Nature Conservation.
A variety of trained non-realeasable birds fo prey are free flown and give you an opportunity to view, spectate and photograph these magnificent birds in natural surroundings.
